treasured moments

last night I went to a cousins wedding...........
I love church weddings but avoid like the plague the parties afterwards.....the extremely loud music, sitting next to people you do not know and trying to have a conversation to get to know them while music is louder than a Boeing 707!!
Indigestible buffets....because you add everything from the 5 food groups smothered in butter sauces....piled high just incase you miss something! Ugh!!
shoe polish that can burn a hole in your bother boots disguised as wine....

I had bad experiences from weddings as a kid growing up in Australia.......cheezy, Cecil B.De Mille productions......the bride looking like a white powder puff plastered in all the make up that was available at the cosmetics counter at the local department store, surrounded by the her maids desperate young women dressed in ill fitting gaudy coloured cheap satin and organza dresses.
Have you seen my big fat Greek wedding well exactly like that right down to the reception/hall/dump......where the party/torture is held.

I digress!!.......

this wedding was very tasteful and elegant plus the reception was held at the Grand Balcon of the St George Lycabettus Hotel.......those of you who live in Athens know what a beautiful hotel and magnificent room the grand balcony is..........we had a view of the Acropolis all night.

and I witnessed a moment that I will always treasure....

The groom walked up to his father and father in law who were sitting together chewing the fat over a glass of wine.....these two elderly gentlemen were very happy that night as their children finally got married (they were waiting many years for this to happen)...anyway.........................
Alexander took their hands and whispered something to them the old men looked at their son/son in law in exact order bewilderment, suprise ,disbelief then they jumped up and shouted for joy (I have goose bumps )...i was moved to tears when it happened.....I figured it out but wanted to be sure and caught Alexanders attention and mouthed ''are they going to be grandfathers?"' Alexander nodded with a sheepish grin......

I was so happy I jumped up and hugged the groom then went to find my cousin....

Of course it was hilarious watching the couple then go around to all the tables and announce the wonderful news and hearing all the cheering and copious consumption of alcohol.....

you have to understand in our family (my husband side) this is a big thing as there are many cousins but only 2 grand kids i.e 6 year old Christian and 7 month old Rea.....it's fabulous news what a wonderful way to start the new year.....

I had to share as it was a beautiful moment and only I witnessed it which made it very special.

of to nurse my headache/hangover!
Later...................................................
