Somehow I feel like I have written this title before....

In the spirit of using up my stash...

(my goal this year)

I think I am in a rut with these papers

all I seem to do is distress them then slap some corrugated cardboard and acrylic paint

for added grunginess

am I subconsciously trying to destroy these beautiful papers???

I wonder...

I admit I dont have a clue how to use them

I am creatively clueless

the mission of the challenge is for you to make a layout

A quick hello

I have been MIA as I decided to take a break from the pc!

It was fabulous,

Christmas was quiet

and now I am adding the finishing touches

to the dining table for tonights celebrations

is to write about your most memorable New Year celebration

Mine was back in 1997

when G and I didnt make any plans for New Years eve

we fell asleep in the afternoon and did not hear the phone ringing

(party invitations)

so we ended up drinking 2 bottles of champagne by the fireplace

it was a fabulous night!

What on earth am I talking about?

Chipboard of course...

I want to share with you some of my layouts and altered items using chipboard

why you ask

well why not ?? LOL

Seriously though

Imaginarium Designs

are having a design team call

I thought I would try my hand

I am already lucky enough to be using their products as

Imaginarium designs sponsor

Once Upon A...Sketch

so on with the show we go....

here are my 10 fave creations using

chipboard!

starting from most recent

Here I have used Imaginarium Designs numbers,

alphas toy train, little boy and a swirl,

they have been painted and some have been glittered!

In this layout I have used chipboard from Sfragidomania

I painted the chandelier in gold and white then added bling for added detail, the little table has been spritzed with glimmer mist and touches of gold added for detail then smothered in glossy accents

In this layout I have used the clock and cog parts from Imaginarium Designs

The chipboard was gessoed then misted and then I flicked blue paint all over them...

In this layout again I have used Imaginarium Designs cogs

and two titles the cogs were colour washed blue also used as a mask

and the titles misted in black for dramatic effect!

This gorgeous butterfly from Imaginarium designs

was painted black then outlined in rock candy stickles I think

...something glittery anyway!

This layout was so simple yet so effective I think.... but I'm wierd

the chipboard is from Basic Grey and all I did was spray paint over the chipboard for a dramatic effect...

I am such a drama queen!!

In this layout I have used the cloud + rainbow and sun from Maya Road

and sun glasses from Basic Grey

a lot of misting and inking went on here! LOL....

This layout is full of left over chipboard Alphas from American crafts and Basic Grey

I think its quite obvious what I did here....LOL

This is my all time favourite layout

I used Basic Grey chipboard alphas and number

the letters were inked in 3 colours then covered in a mix of glossy and crackle accents

I just love the effect

my final creation is this completely crazy looking birdcage

using the Tim Holtz die (thank you eleni) as I do not own a die cutting

machine..I am open to donations LOL LOL!!!

Truly it does look better in real life....

the chipboard was gessoed then

misted in white then inked in blues and Green

and of course smothered in crackle accents

of course copious ammounts of bling was adhered!

and that concludes this walk down memory lane with my use of chipboard

if you are wondering....the little boxes under the tree are the embellishments

I am adding to my Christmas presents this year!

here are some closeups of the fabulous chipboard from

Sfragidomania

I covered the chandelier in gold

and coloured the candles with white gel pen

and then added bling

cute huh!!

and this is the cutest little table

I misted it with Glimmer Mist Tattered leather

then slightly outlined the sides, the drawer and the handle with a gold pen

then covered it with glossy accents

I would have prefered crackle accents but I didnt have any!

Yes its the first of December!

Yikes that's all I am going to say about it!

Journalling Criteria/theme: The thing I look most forward to in December.

Write at least 2 sentences on what you look forward to in the next month. December is a festive month so your journalling could be about the Christmas season, the holidays, the presents or if you do not celebrate Christmas what does December bring for you that you look most forward to? Other ideas for journalling: an annual holiday or celebration, a specific event such as putting up the Christmas tree or pre Christmas traditions you might have leading up to Christmas, family time, snow covered fields or warmer weather, time off work, school holidays, change of weather, new season fruit.

Friday Evening:

Watched vintage James Bond with the boyz

accompanied with popcorn and wine!!

Saturday: all day

Flower workshop at

Zeffy's

here is the end result

10 gorgeous handmade flowers!

Zeffy is wickedly talented

and I kept saying over and over again

what a fabulous lesson/workshop I took.

Flowers are not my go to embellishment for a layout

I enjoy the latest trend in scrapbooking with the flower laden

layouts and marvel at their beauty

Its just not my style...which is cool....

but I wanted to learn how to make flowers

and jumped at the chance to learn

so......

So after the workshop

I stayed on a little longer and made a Christmas tag

and of course the beautiful Poinsetta i had just made took

the centre stage...

I love it...LOL

After I stamped my image and misted the background

I applied a layer of Gel medium

and sprinkled this gorgoeus translucent glitter

It sort of shows up on the tag.....

then started layering and embellishing!

Sunday:

We surprised our little man with a trip to the

War museum

I was blown away by this cannon....

look at the detailed engraving....

Somehow it seemed ironic something that could cause so much destruction

could be so beautiful!!..

This part of the museum freaked me out

I cringed looking at these weapons

4. So I make up for number 3 by drinking lots of white wine....hic

5. I could eat sushi for breakfast lunch and dinner.....that can only happen when money grows on trees!

6. I can play Penguin Diner 2 all day....google it

7. I have a coca cola light addiction......and yes I have tried therapy!

8. I procrastinate.....I take my time doing it too!

9. I dont wear a watch.....because I always know what time it is

10. I ramble and obsess.....I know I should be on psycho drugs

11. I opened an etsy shop.....Grandmas Trinkets

12. I stopped eating sugar.......best thing I ever did (for now LOL)

13. I love a good gossip....and so do you admit it LOL!!!!

14. I used to love winter but now I am feeling the cold......I think they call it old age

15. I am addicted to Sons of Anarchy.....I must have been a biker whore in another life time

16. I want an i-phone....but I have to be happy with my i-ron

17. I wish I could write more...but I fear I will bore you!

C3's views on SEX!!.....

This weekend C3 was in top form

(for those who do not know C3 is my 8yr old son)

Friday night C3 had a friend over,

so while they were playing in his room

G and I lit some candles, opened a bottle of wine and

cuddled on the couch listening to music....

C3 came in to nvestigate

not impressed that G and I are cuddling

C3: Is there a power shortage?

Irini: no!...

C3: then why are the candles lit?

Irini: for a romantic atmosphere!

C3: ah ok (giving me dirty look...translation I do not like my father and you being affectionate)

an hour later when his friend left

C3 came to the kitchen to ask me

C3: mama were you and my father having sex?

I: What?!!!! No ....

C3: Dont you think you are both a bit old for sex now????

I think I not only wet myself from laughter I also cried....

So are you too old????

6 months of Once Upon A...Sketch

Wow!

I cannot believe it has been 6 months since the blog started!

Here's to another 6 months and more!!!!!

this fortnight our challenge is to journal about

something note worthy that happened last week...

well for me it was the realisation that my baby

is now a

tween

When did that happen?????????

I realised that I should treasure this time with him

because who knows what the teenage years will bring!

I am afraid I took many photos of this layout

and could not get the lighting right

very very frustrating!!

I was gifted some gorgeous Websters pages back in 2009.

I would lovingly admire the beautiful papers stroke them talk to them

but never, never lay a hand on them!!!

Till one day I reached the point of no return and decided to

make a layout

with one of these beautiful papers

well one thing led to another and I could not stop

I threw caution to the wind,

I listened to my heart and not my head

I defiled these gorgeous papers

I ravaged them by tearing them

I distressed them with no consideration for their feelings

I splattered them with inks and paint

I added graffiti, I stuck letters on them

I smothered them with embellishments

and in a desperate attempt to ask forgiveness

for my selfish destructive acts

I added flowers, beautiful flowers

hoping to win back some respect........

The thoughts of an 8yr old on the Greek economy

Monday 19th September 16:45

C3 and irini walking home from the bus stop

the conversation went like this;

irini: So how was your day at school?

C3: ok

irini: did you eat your lunch (typical Greek mother LOL)

C3: ummmm a little, mama mama I have an idea

irini: what about?

C3: when I grow up I want to become a scientist/inventor

irini: oh wow that sounds wonderful, what will you invent?

C3: well you know how all the politicians have spent all our money

irini: Yes......(no need to lie to the child, it is the truth!!)

C3: well I am going to make a purse that prints money, so when you press a button

it will make money, paper money.

irini: wow and how much will it cost?

C3: At first I will make them and give one to you and to daddy

and for me of course then all the poor people

irini: you are very kind.

C3: I will have a shop where people will come and buy the special paper

to put in the purse printer.

irini: wow you have thought of everything

C3: I know!!! and we will be rich and have lots of money

so much money we we can have a bath in it...

(this is where the conversation starts to go down hill superfast LOL )

C3: and the purse will also print coins

irini: dont you think it will be heavy?

C3: yeah doesn't matter I will print lots of paper money

which will be the water for my bath and the coins will be the soap hahahahaha

(he thought he was very funny)

irini: ok ok...sunshine lets talk about homework

C3: ummm ok ....(silence)

The lovely Lena from

Enjoy Scrapping

had generously given me the

Glitz Designs

Scarlett kit

to play with

and boy did I play!! LOL

here is what is left of the kit

I made a little micro mini (what I like to call them)

from the journalling spots that were in the kit

and a card.

At the end of the post I have uploaded all the layouts and cards I made

with this fabulous kit!!

Everything that has been used in the mini is from the kit apart

(obviously the punches are mine)

For the cover I used left over pattern paper

and added a flower to the sticker frame

I misted the flower with Candy Apple Red Glimmer mist from the kit

added left over stickers and journalling stickers

more stickers!

I misted the butterfly with I stamped the wings of the butterfly with the stamp from the kit

punched a hole added a jump ring and some black lacy ribbon and some charms!!

simple!

flower and the inking was done with the glimmer mist!

the layout challenge for the 15th of September is a sketch

this is my take on the sketch!

I was so proud of C3 on this cold winters day

this brave little 4 yr (back in 2007)

braved his outdoor swimming lesson,

the wind was so strong I thought it was going to lift him up out of the water.

That night it snowed!!!

and here is the layout I prepared for the

1st of September creative challenge

We had to add frames to our layout

It seems like yesterday that he learnt to read and write!!

and now he will be studying history!!

We were away for a week

we tried to rest but we also did a little sight seeing!

Now we are back and I am ready for a year of work and creativity

if only I did not have to wake up at 0630!!

arghh I felt like a zombie this morning...

I digress...

and I have to switch it up (obviously!! hahaha)

then instead of pattern paper

I stamped frames behind the photo!

I love my sons sense of style he matches classic jackets

with jeans and checked sneakers!

It seems like an eternity yet it was not that long ago

and it all happened so fast........

It has been 46days since we lost our beloved papou (grandfather)

I needed to scrap about it and I found the perfect photo to go with the perfect sketch

1921-2011

Thus the reason for my disappearance!

We were about to go on holidays for a week,

splurging on a 5star hotel to be pampered

so as Gregory could recuperate from surgery

(he finally had the screws removed from his femur)

no sooner we left the hospital we got a call.....

that G's father was not well.

The ambulance was called and we went straight to the hospital.

We arrived in emergency Friday night 8pm

an available bed in the wards was found at 2am Saturday morning!!

Tentative diagnosis was pulmonary oedema so death was imminent

but that was not the case

it was a respiratory infection so strong

that this feisty nonagenarian

could not fight!!

the doctors tried to fight for him

we tried to fight for him

but there was no more fight left in him!

As a babe his family fled from Constantinople

leaving all their wealth and property behind!

As a teen in Thessaloniki he defied the Germans by stealing their weapons and

dumping them in the Thermaic Gulf....

he was caught and sent to

Mettenheim Concentration Camp

he fought to survive by eating raw bread dough and

drinking lots of water!

As a young adult he entered the foreign office as a means
to studying chemistry his first post was in Czechoslovakia

he fought to help Greeks leave the country
by faking passports, as a result....

his second post was the USSR in 1957
he became a respected consul in the foreign office
such was his reputation that he was sent to
Hungary mid 1960's.....
here he fought against the Hungarian police
that had no qualms about
invading the Greek Consulate late at night
what they did not realise is that
he did not fear the communists!!
he refused a post in New York
much to the wife's and sons dismay LOL
and served his final working years in Paris
upon retirement he returned with his wife to Greece
where he had to fight a new battle that of the degenerating neurological disease called Parkinsons

he fought long and hard for 16years
till Tuesday 19th of July 2011
where he put down his boxing gloves.....

Give them hell Kyrie Christo where ever you are!!
you will be missed
but always remembered with love, affection and respect

I made this layout a couple of weeks ago now....

it was actually made with some scrapping buddies on the island of Aegina

I have used the Glitz Scarlett kit from

Enjoy Scrapping

The red frill around the layout was made with the Martha Stewart Doilie punch,

I punched out doilie strips from the vanilla cardstock in the kit

then I sprayed the strips with Candy Apple red Glimmer Mist (again from the kit)

once the strips dried I pleated them and placed them around the layout!

This picture has such bitter sweet memories

apart from the fact DH and I are very young (I was 28) LOL

we were also celebrating the marriage of a dear friend of ours

and a year later to the day she died from breast cancer

she was only 28!

Missing in Action and Get Creative!!

I have been missing in action

because I cannot type!!

this week I suffered with swollen hands and feet

for reasons unkown according to the bright sparks (ummm doctors)

of the Greek Health System

I will make a post about this experience

but not today as I can hardly type LOL LOL

The calendar does not lie so after that little rant

This kid is always making faces when he sees me with the camera!!

I do feel sorry for him having a mum who is obsessed with scrap booking

cant be easy having a camera following you around all the time!!

So the weekend is here and you feel creative

It feels good to take part in a challenge again...

it's been too long!!

So here is my entry to the

the challenge is to make a layout

about the place you would most like to visit again

plus add a journalling spot!!

my boyz decided to celebrate my birthday yesterday...

so we had a lovely BBQ

and home made dessert

C3 thought it appropriate I blow out some candles

It was C3's birthday last Monday and when he came home from school

he received many phone calls from friends and family

in the photos he is talking to his Grandma Mary who is far away in Australia

I love the expressions on his face so I had to scrap them.....

This layout was so much fun...and in my opinion also funny

as I used my Echo Park collection again....

I know you do not see any pattern paper there but

I am sure die hard fans of "For the record" by Echo Park

will recognise all the stickers!!

there is half a sticker (under the telephone),

a little strip of pattern paper peeking out from the tear

that little technique seems to be popping up in all my layouts of late!! LOL

My most favourite photograph

is that of my little man at the

I enjoyed making this layout,

so soft and tender
